"People work best when they feel good about themselves. So the main principle of management should be making people feel good" - Henry Stewart
On 21 November 2011, we hosted an evening of insights and inspiration with Henry Stewart, one of the world's leading experts on creating happy workplaces. This was to coincide with the launch of Henry's new book - a manifesto and a call for change in how we treat people in our organisations. Henry has built his inspiring and successful company Happy entirely around this idea and now trains other companies in how they can do the same.
Many thanks to the Centre for Charity Effectiveness at Cass Business School for hosting and generously supporting this event.
In 1987, the organisation Henry worked for went bankrupt. "The problem was not the talent or dedication of the people. It was the working environment. We weren't trusted, there was a strong blame culture and we weren't given the freedom to do our jobs".
Determined to learn from this, Henry set up Happy and built the company around the idea that people work best when they feel good and are treated well. The company has gone from strength to strength and won numerous awards, including the best company in the UK for customer service (Management Today) and the 2nd best place to work in the UK (Financial Times Best Workplace Awards).
In 2009, Henry was listed as one of the top 50 most influential business thinkers in the world by Guru Radar of thinkers.
