Happiness: a message to world leaders
05 Dec 2011 | Action for Happiness
Something extremely important is happening. We are seeing
increasing pressure on world leaders to rethink how we define
social progress. At the heart of this is the shift away from
prioritising economic growth at all costs, towards maximising
people's overall wellbeing and happiness.
Today our movement has gained a huge boost thanks to the
President of the European Council, Herman Van Rompuy. He has
written to all world leaders calling for them to make people's
happiness and wellbeing the political priority for 2012.
The President's letter is being sent with a copy of the World Book of Happiness, which combines
insights from 100 leading researchers in 50 different
countries.
The letter also specifically mentions, and gives support to, the
work of Action for Happiness as a global
movement of people taking action to create a happier world.
"I am very happy to give my support to the worldwide activity of
Lord Richard Layard (www.actionforhappiness.org), which offers all
of us starting-points for happiness. It is an international
movement for positive social change. Thousands of men and women in
more than a hundred countries are committed to it." - Herman Van
Rompuy
